The year was 1982 and more than 120,000 fans turned out to see The Rolling Stones take to the stage at Roundhay Park.

The concert was the end of a two month European tour by the band with Mick Jagger celebrating his 39th birthday on stage.

But one music critic observed "no sign of fatigue in a mesmeric performance"

Jagger sprinted along miles of stage, sang from an ascending lift and also from the tub of a construction crane which swing out over the audience while Keith Richard performed with the "effervescene of youth."

A spectatular firework display to the accompaniment of Land of Hope and Glory ended the concert.
