The first Oakwood Farmers' Market has been hailed a huge success.
The event, held around the iconic clock tower, was organised by Roundhay Environmental Action Project (REAP) and, according to spokeswoman Janette Munton, was "absolutely packed".

"You could not move," she said. "There was a lovely atmosphere with a real community feel."

She said the market attracted 15 stalls and all the traders had enjoyed good business.

She added: "The bread stall's 500 loaves were all sold within the first hour and the queue snaked all round the market."

As reported earlier on Roundhay Today, the aim of the market is to provide good quality, locally sourced fresh food such as meat, fruit and vegetables, cheeses and preserves and also information on sustainable living.

It will take place on the third Saturday of every month. The next will take place on April 19 from 9am to 12.30pm.
