Thomas Walsh: Roundhay car smash driver dies

A driver who crashed in Roundhay after reportedly overtaing a police car at speed without lights has died in hospital.
Thomas Walsh, 26, who hit a lamppost at Roundhay, early on Sunday, July 6, died in hospital between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The police car discovered the severely injured driver and the Toyota Avensis car in Princess Avenue, Roundhay, shortly after 12.30am.

The accident occurred close to the Roundhay Fox pub and the road was closed for a lengthy period.

The investigation is being supervised by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Police appealed for witnesses to the crash to contact Sgt Adrian Newman at North West Leeds Road Traffic Department on 0845 6060606.

The family of Mr Walsh, of Wetherby Road, Roundhay, issued the following statement: "Our family is devastated by the loss of our much loved son by this very tragic accident.

"He was a loving son and a loving father to his own young baby son."
