The Government announced last week that the whole country would be subject to tough four-week restrictions from Thursday, November 5 to December 2. This means people should avoid leaving their homes unless it is necessary and not mix with people in other households, except in specific circumstances. Here are 15 photos from the first day of the second lockdown:
1.
People were still out and about on the first day of the 2nd national lockdown - but it was far less than the usual busy Briggate scenes.
2.
However, some people are unable to work at home so there was still some footfall.
3.
Only one man could be seen walking in Thornton's Arcade after non-essential shops were forced to close.
4.
Queens's Arcade was deserted after it's shops and cafes were told to close for the second time this year.
5.
Restaurants, pubs and bars were also forced to close until December 2 - and are only able to operate as takeaway or delivery only.
6.
Leeds Corn Exchange (seen in the distance) is also closed down completely until December 2.
