Six residents of a south Leeds street have been given a much-needed boost during the coronavirus pandemic by landing a windfall in the People's Postcode Lottery.

The residents, on Allenby Place in Beeston, each scooped the lottery's £30,000 prize after their postcode of LS11 5RT was announced the winner on Saturday June 6.

One household won a total of £60,000 after married couple Donna, 38, and Andrew Marshall, 42 - who live with son Alfie, 15 - each played a ticket.

Andrew, a construction worker, said: "It’s our ten-year anniversary in August and we always said we would go to the Seychelles so I think that might be happening now!

“The last 15 years we’ve had family holidays with our lad, but we won’t have to feel guilty about leaving him now as he wants a hot tub for the house.”

“I’ll definitely be treating my friends and family. The first thing my son said was a coat, which will probably be few hundred pounds, but I think on this occasion I can get him it.

“Egypt is somewhere I would love to visit. I’ve always wanted to see the pyramids.”

He added: “I don’t win many things in my life and when I do it’s a CD or something!

“It’s a great surprise in life to get. It couldn’t have come at a better time. This year has been pretty bad as you know so this is very nice with everything going on.”

Valeire, who works part-time in a primary school, was equally over the moon when she found out how much she had won.

She said: “It’s absolutely wonderful, just amazing. It’s something to look forward to!.I can’t wait until lockdown is over so I can go out and spend.

“There’s no one else here to pinch me so I’ll need to pinch myself. It’s a bizarre time for everyone but this is very bizarre too.”

When asked how she would spend her winnings, she said: “It sounds a bit daft, but a greenhouse would be nice. I was supposed to share an allotment with my daughter but then lockdown started, so I’ve been stock piling stuff in the garden.

“Actually, let’s go big - a jacuzzi or a hot tub!”

“I have a lovely family who are really supportive so it will make a big difference.

“My grandson has just turned eight, so this is a great birthday present. When the shops get going and the restaurants open there will be treats.”

People’s Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day.
